Organization description:
The Iowa Theatre Artists Company (ITAC) is a not-for profit small professional theatre located in the "heart" of Amana. Theatre colleagues, Tom Johnson and Meg Merckens first opened this new company in late 2007 and performed their first show, Pump Boys and Dinettes at the Colony Village Restaurant in February of 2008. The  theatre went on to perform three more productions that year at various venues across Iowa and also at the St. Croix Festival Theatre in Wisconsin. In October of 2008, ITAC purchased the former Barn Restaurant building in the center of Amana, located next to the Festhalle and across the parking lot from the Visitors Center. With excellent help from an enthusiastic and supportive team of volunteers, Johnson and Merckens  renovated the former restaurant space into a 102-seat theatre on the second level of the building, with a performing arts center on the first level.  The building is "street level" for both venues and is handicap accessible with free, adjacent parking offered.  ITAC is a member of Actors' Equity Association, the professional organization of actors and stage managers in the United States.  Their theatrical season runs from May through December, with music events and dance classes offered throughout the year.
